Understanding Depression as the Spirit of Heaviness

Where can you find this in the Bible?
(Isaiah 61:3) King James Version
To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.
What are the symptoms of the spirit of heaviness?
The symptoms of this strongman include, as the text suggests: excessive mourning, sorrow and grief, depression, despair, dejection, hopelessness, self-pity, loneliness, disappointment, insomnia, inner hurts, and bruises. The spirit of heaviness tries to take our joy of living by loading us down with heaviness. He attempts to move in when we are mourning and keep us in an abnormal state of perpetual grief.
You do not have to sit in depression, you have a choice to get out of it. Looking at depression from a biblical stand point it falls under the “Spirit of Heaviness.”
How can you overcome the spirit of heaviness?
Be Aggressive… Don’t yield to those dark moods and depression…fight it with the sword of the Spirit. Using the word of God to stop the enemy.
Be Obedient…Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you throughout your daily activities and put God first in everything you do.
Don’t give into sin…that is letting the enemy enter into a doorway in your life.
Pray…Bind the spirit of heaviness and loose the Holy Spirit...
“Satan, in the name of Jesus I bind your spirit of heaviness according to Matthew 18:18, which promises ‘Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven.’
Thank You, Father, for delivering me from the trap of the enemy. I loose the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, the garment of praise and the oil of joy. I praise Your holy name. Thank You, Jesus, for Your goodness and mercy to me. Thank You for hearing and answering my prayer. Amen.
